Winter. My least favorite season. Cold, dark, dreary days are not on my list of favorite things. I struggled with winter for a long time and still do at times. The only difference is that now I live a bit further south, so our winters are much more mild than what I grew up with. For a long time I never did anything different in winter. I would get frustrated that it was too cold and that I couldn't enjoy being outside. Then I read about the concept of wintering. There are several different definitions of wintering, some lean more towards rest while others lean toward taking this time to learn new skills. My favorite definition is creating winter only activities for yourself and your family.
Last year when I was really struggling I decided to find an activity that was mentally engaging to help me fight those winter blues. I decided on puzzles. I don't do puzzles during any other season. It allows this activity to hold a special place and gives me something to look forward to during the winter months. I especially love puzzles from Lore´ Pemberton, they are just beautiful!
Wintering for you will probably look different and that it totally ok. Here are a few ideas of wintering activities that you could use to help combat those winter blues.

This is only a small list of things that I could come up with just to get you thinking about things you could do or skills you could learn during the winter months. It is important to find something that you will enjoy and look forward to. If you choose something because someone else does it, you may not find enjoyment in learning that skill or doing the activity. For example you won't find me skiing or snowboarding, those activities do not bring me joy. You can find me inside, bundled up with a warm drink.
What skills or activities would you add to this list? Let me know in the comments.
How can I pray for you?
I hike all through the winter, I love the cold crisp air for a hike. I also do embroidery, and used to crochet and need to pick that back up! I need to get some puzzles!
