Seasons of Change

If you were to ask me to describe the last few weeks, I would say it has been a chaotic mess. Work has been busier than ever and the farm has brought a few new challenges. I started to doubt my ability to handle it all. I started to look at the waters crashing around me, but then God reminded me of how beautiful this season can be.

All of us have seasons of change. Routines, work, life, relationships, you name it. It doesn't take much to disrupt the balancing act that we all do. I don't know about you, but I don't always react well to change. Especially change to my routines. I guess I am like the cows in this way. When we had the new waterer installed, we had to removed the old water troughs so the girls would learn to use the new system. Well, as you can imagine, they did not appreciate us breaking up their routine.

The girls had forged a visible path to their water troughs. Every time they wanted a drink, they took this same route. Now they have to walk a new path to a new waterer. We spent time with them and trained them on how to use the new ball waterers. We made sure they felt comfortable using this new system. But there are still days when the girls will follow the old path and are surprised to find no water there. After a few moments, and a few huffs from Madeline, they make their way over to the new system and find cool, refreshing water.

Aren't we the same. We like our routines. We like our comforts. We don't like it when things are suddenly new and different. But change can actually be good for us. Like the new watering systems. The old troughs were open and we spent so much time cleaning leaves, frogs, birds, and algae out of them. Now we don't have to worry about that. The cows may not understand why we made the change, but we did it for their benefit.

Sometimes God brings change into our lives that we don't understand. We don't always respond well to those changes. I know I don't. The crazy cool thing I learned this week, is that God is there in the mess with you. He is showing us the new way. He is walking with us in the new path. My heart was overwhelmed by this thought. Every time we face a change or disruption, I can trust that God is with us.

How can I pray for you this week?
